As a population, takatāpui and rainbow people in Aotearoa face significant health disparities and systemic barriers to accessing healthcare. Discrimination, social exclusion and isolation have impacts on physical and mental health.
Specific healthcare needs, including for gender-affirming healthcare and intersex health support, are not well met by our current health system. The national health system has very few structures or policy levers to improve health outcomes for rainbow people, and there is no national approach to rainbow health.
This section shares resources and documents about rainbow population health and healthcare.
